Your initial consultation with us is an opportunity not only for you to work out whether or not we are the firm for you, but you also get a chance to pick our brains!
We know your time is precious, so here are some tips that will help you maximise the value you get from your initial consultation with Nomos.
Prepare your documents
Once you’ve booked in for an initial consultation, we will let you know what documents we want to review before our discussion. It’s important that you get these to us as they help us understand your situation, which in turn helps us give you personalised, accurate and relevant advice. We usually like to receive these documents at least 24 hours before your consultation so we have enough time to prepare and do our research before we meet you.
Write down a list of questions
Think about the questions you really want answered! The consultation will give you around an hour with someone who has an in-depth understanding of immigration law, so you can ask anything that will put your mind at ease. Writing down a list of questions before your consultation helps, as then you have a list that you can refer to in the consultation. This planning ahead will help you get the most of your consultation and it means you don’t forget anything important.
Know your case
You aren’t the only one with questions, we have some for you! We may know the law, but we don’t know you or your story, so you will have to fill in those gaps for us. You should be able to answer any questions we have for you, especially in terms of the key facts relevant to your immigration issues such as the details of your visa history, visa expiry dates and so on. Knowing the specifics gives us the information we need to be able to formulate a strategy, which in turn maximises the effectiveness and accuracy of your consultation.
Think about what you want
We like to speak about your goals in an initial consultation – are you looking for permanent residence? Or temporary residence? How quickly do you need or want things done? An initial consultation lets us both discuss expectations for your case. This is really important, not just so that we are all on the same page, but in some cases the outcome you’re working towards may not be straightforward and we may need to come up with a personalised strategy for you.
Do your research
Check out our LinkedIn page to get to know us better. You can also find more information about Kathryn and Victoria on our website. Having a look at these sites will give you a sense of how Nomos works, and will give you some insight into the advisor you will be meeting with. Knowing this background information can help you tailor your queries to their specific experiences.
We hope these tips are helpful! If you do have any more questions, contact us and speak with our Office Manager.
