November at Nomos
The penultimate month of 2022 was yet another busy one with a significant upswing in the number of immigration enquiries. Here’s a cursory glance at the month of November:
-
- Late in October, a new Ministerial Direction was handed down ordering the prioritisation of processing of skilled visa applications (Ministerial Direction No. 100). The Direction formalises the Federal Government’s commitment to processing priorities, particularly in relation to the health and education sectors. Direction 100 applies to all skilled visa nominations and visa applications still awaiting a decision, including new applications. If you’d like to know more about current processing times or the visa application process, please feel free to contact us.

- November saw the 2022 G20 Summit take place in Bali, Indonesia, where leaders of the world’s major economies (accounting for more than 80% of the world’s GDP, 75% of global trade and 60% of the planet’s population) came together so as to discuss a variety of economic policies and co-operative efforts. Australia’s attention was piqued when Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with Chinese President Xi Jingping for the first time since the former took office in May this year. The meeting between the two leaders was highly anticipated in light of the recent tensions between Australia and China. Prime Minister Albanese claimed the meeting was a win for Australia after having urged the Chinese president to end the sanctions placed on Australian exports worth $20 billion a year. By all accounts, the relationship between Australia and China appears to be partially mended amidst recent tensions, though no immediate concessions with regard to either trade or security were made in the wake of the summit.

- Nomos is proud to announce that we will once again be returning to the Mardi Gras Fair Day on Sunday 20 February in 2023. As the celebratory event that kicks of the Mardi Gras festival, Fair Day has been an annual tradition since 1979 that places a bright spotlight on many LGBTQI+ artists, influencers and community members. Covid-19 prevented Fair Day from going ahead for the past 2 years, so it is anticipated that the return to full capacity will be a unique opportunity for many to unite and celebrate as they have not been able to do since 2019. Nomos will be operating a stall throughout Fair Day so we can answer the enquiries of any attendees who may have immigration questions or concerns. As we begin to round out the year, we are already excited for being part of such an auspicious event again next year!
That’s the Nomos wrap-up for November. See you next month!
