November at Nomos
As we enter the festive season and start to think about winding up operations for 2024, it’s still full steam ahead at Nomos:
-
- Even as the year is beginning to wind up, we had good news for many of our clients as we saw more TSS (subclass 482) visa grants, Partner visa grants and Australian citizenship conferrals – just in time for the festive season!
-
- The anticipated MATES (Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme) for Indian nationals will take effect in December 2024, allowing Indian nationals (graduates and early career professionals) to register for the pre-application ballot for a Temporary Work (International Relations) (subclass 403) visa. Applicants need to be between 18 and 30, hold the equivalent of a Bachelor degree or higher from a specified tertiary institution, meet relevant English language requirements and have a qualification relevant to one of the key industries identified for this visa, including Mining, Engineering, Renewable Energy, IT or Agriculture. If granted, a holder of this visa will be permitted to live and work in Australia for up to 2 years. This process is expected to be highly competitive, with only 3000 visas being granted each year.
-
- November 2024 was put forward as the month when we expected legislative changes to the work experience requirement for the TSS visa as well as the introduction of the Skills in Demand visa to replace the TSS visa, however, no legislation has yet been introduced to enact such changes. With the Senate now on a break until February 2025, it is unlikely that we will see the extensive reforms this year. As soon as we hear anything, we will contact clients but until then, you can read our previous blog post.
That’s the Nomos wrap-up for November, and our final wrap-up of 2024. We hope that you and your families enjoy some rest and relaxation over the festive season (hopefully visiting one of Australia’s many beautiful places like the pictured Flinders Island). Our office will close from noon on Friday 20 December 2024 and we will reopen for business on Monday 13 January 2025. During the break, we will maintain a skeleton staff that will be able to attend to urgent matters and relay important information (such as the notification of a visa grant) to our clients, but otherwise our team will be taking a well-earned break to recharge their batteries in anticipation of a big 2025.
