May at Nomos
As we enter the last month of the financial year and the weather continues to cool, things are continuing to heat up at Nomos! Here’s the snapshot of our May 2024:
-
- In May, we were pleased to see more grants in the TSS (subclass 482), Temporary Work (subclass 400), Resident Return (subclass 155), permanent Partner (subclass 801) and Visitor (subclass 600) visa categories for our clients. The good news just keeps rolling in!
-
- The latest federal budget was released by the Labor Government’s Treasurer The Hon. Jim Chalmers MP on 14 May 2024, which addressed several issues within the immigration space such as a need to improve the existing system. The budget highlighted several key focus areas within the immigration space including changes to the temporary and permanent migration programs, the introduction of the Administrative Review Tribunal set to replace the current Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the bolstering of the Leaving Violence Program, and changes to the Work and Holiday visa program for individuals from specific countries. For more insight into the immigration-specific impacts of the budget, you can read our blog from earlier this month.
-
- The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (‘TSMIT’) will increase in the new migration year (i.e. from 1 July 2024) from $70,000 to $73,150. Only new nomination applications lodged on or after 1 July will be subject to the new TSMIT and assessed as such, while existing TSS visa holders and TSS nomination applications lodged prior to 1 July will not be impacted by the change. If you are currently recruiting, or if you are about to, this forthcoming change might impact your business, so please reach out to us for specific advice.

- Nomos was honoured this month by its inclusion in the inaugural Australian edition of the publication Best Law Firms™ – Australia 2025, as ranked by Best Lawyers. Reviewing firms operating across 83 areas of practice in Australian Law, the Best Lawyers team applied their tried-and-true methodology to bring standout firms to the forefront in their publication. With some help from our clients, who took the time to provide some feedback to Best Lawyers on their experiences with Nomos, our firm has been officially included on the prestigious list of Australian law firms. Our whole team was greatly honoured for this recognition of our hard work and client-focussed approach.
That’s the Nomos wrap-up for May. See you next month!
