January at Nomos
Our team has really hit the ground running this year after taking some downtime over the festive season, allowing us to tackle the new year and its challenges on behalf of our clients with our batteries fully recharged. Below are just some of the highlights that have kicked-off 2025 at Nomos:
-
- The new year has brought our clients reason to celebrate as we have seen more visa grants in the Partner, SID (subclass 482), ENS (subclass 186), General Skilled Migration and Visitor categories. 2025 is off to a great start!!
-
- 2025 has started off with global mobility firmly on the agenda across the ditch, as the New Zealand government announced a change to its Visitor visa program to allow for digital nomads to work in New Zealand for up to 9 months. Visitors can now work for up to 9 months in New Zealand for an overseas employer and is aimed at skilled tech workers from the United States and East Asia. This is certainly a forward thinking move, given how many people continue to work remotely. If you or your staff could benefit from this option, get in touch.
-
- If you employ non-Australians, even if they aren’t sponsored visa holders, the start of a new year is always a good time to review your immigration law compliance. The end of 2024 brought a lot of changes to the employer sponsored program, and we have spent a lot of time working with our clients to identify staff who may be able to transition to a permanent visa, as well as to ensure that their systems and processes are compliant with the current law as well as their sponsorship obligations. If you’d like to explore how we can help your business with a compliance audit, get in touch.
-
- As occurs every year, local councils across Australia held citizenship ceremonies as part of their scheduled Australia Day programmes. This year, more than 20,000 individuals from more than 150 counties (including some of our clients) were invited to attend one of these ceremonies where our country’s newest citizens pledged their commitment to Australia and officially become Aussies. Since 1949, more than 6 million Australians have become citizens by conferral, helping to grow our nation’s diversity and strengthen our shared values..
That’s the Nomos wrap-up for January. See you next month!
